The best article I happened to read today is a set of great questions from KenBlanchard’s team in twitter.

Read your solar pushcart vendor story. Very inspiring. One thing is solar power is hugely undertapped and primarily because of cost. The only known cases of successes that I am aware of are the solar water heater (i.e. for bathing) which is hugely popular in Bangalore and ensures cost recovery in 5-10 years. The other one that is successful is the hand held lamp used by a lot of street vendors. Came across a nice initiative 2 years back called “Light a billion Lives” http://labl.teriin.org/

In this case, but for the funding support that the pushcart vendor got (which is very vital), he might not have been in a position to do what he did. But then again looking differently , even with monetary support, its the initiative and willingness to try out that should be appreciated.

Yes Kartic solar water heater is a no brainer, solar lamp too. I had read about an initiative that replaced kerosene lamps with solar lamps in places like marina beach. If I were the govt I would heavily subsidize solar power generating and solar based equipment and undertake solarification on a war footing.
